Our Beloved Summer , K-Drama Recommendation 2023

I am writing my thoughts for this blog while a minute ago I finished watching this drama for the second time. I don't know why I started watching it again, maybe I wanted to watch something that would for sure give me some comfort and warmth. Been out of my mind lately and what best to watch other than K-drama with such a strong portrayal of emotions and not just the emotions related to love but the raw and pure emotions of childhood traumas that could haunt you for your entire life.

But first, let me address the elephant in the room for all my precious readers. Yes, I vanished for a while, precisely for 2 years. But I think I am back now for good. And for a change, It's been a while since I am watching K-Dramas (Obviously, because of BTS). Watched quite a lot of dramas now so I thought to start writing about them again.

I watched Our Beloved Summer back in the summer of 2022, honestly, it's one of my favorites so far (I have other favorites as well about which I will surely write and urge you to go watch them😉). The chemistry of Choi Woong and  Kook Yeon-soo is natural as their acting. The drama starts when years after filming a viral documentary in high school basically narrating the life of the school topper (Kook Yeon-soo) and backbencher (Choi Woong), Choi Woong and  Kook Yeon-soo (former Lovers) get pulled back in front of the camera to shoot season 2 of the documentary about their life.

The back and forth of their childhood school scenes of season 1 while shooting season 2 of the documentary were so well connected and relatable. The portrayal of the emotions of falling in love and breaking up and again getting to see each other after 5 years was so authentic and raw. Even after watching it twice, I was crying in each scene as if I were watching it for the first time. As an audience, you will get annoyed with Kook Yeon-soo for breaking up with Choi Woong but later in the scenes, you will realize why she did it and from which mindset she was coming. You and I at least once in there life must felt the need to secure ourselves from getting hurt by rejecting others before they could reject us.

I know I am just talking about the main lead here and some of you would love the side roles more but for me, in most of the K-Dramas the lead is the deal breaker of course not to mention Cha Sung-Hoon in Business Proposal (He is the epitome of Good Looks😋).

I have screenshots of two ultimate scenes of Kook Yeon-soo and Choi Woong where they have done a tremendous job and showed us the dark and damaged sides of their roles. The pain and fear of their past mistakes and traumas were so rich in their body language and in their eyes that it always make me cry.  If you have watched the show already, you will understand and relate to why I have specifically mentioned these two scenes.

And how can I finish this review without mentioning V's (Kim Taehyung - BTS) vocals in Christmas Tree. The soul he has given to that song I don't think any other singer would have done justice to it. Especially the Korean lyrics part and his melodic voice - hands down the best OST. I have fallen in the love with him even more. The director of the drama has mixed his voice in all the right places that took the whole scene to next level. I love the part the V and Choi Woo-Shik (Cha Sung-Hoon) are friends too in real life. If you haven't watched In the Soop - Friendcation YOU SHOULD WATCH IT, YOU WILL UNDERSTAND WHAT I AM SAYING. Anyways I'll leave this for another review.

For me, this show is the ultimate drama and couple I would love to watch whenever I am down and want to escape difficult times. You need to watch this drama and I promise you won't regret it.

Rating 4.5/5 💕💕💕
